Dale Ann Leatherman lives 90 minutes from Washington, DC, at the tip of West Virginia’s Eastern Panhandle. In the course of her life she has exercised racehorses at New York’s Belmont Park, showed jumping horses on the A Circuit, driven a race car with the late Paul Newman and played the world’s most famous golf courses. She is a former private pilot and an avid scuba diver.
Dale is the co-author of Courting Danger, a collaboration with 1930s tennis star/WWII spy Alice Marble, published by St. Martins Press. The screen rights to the book are under option to Maven Pictures. Olivia Cooke (Ready Player One, Thoroughbreds, Vanity Fair, Bates Motel) is slated to star.
A freelance travel writer specializing in equestrian sports, golf, adventure and the Caribbean, Dale is a former president of the Society of American Travel Writers, a professional association with more than 1,000 members.
Dale’s career includes experience as a staff editor for newspapers, magazines and websites. Her articles have been published in diverse outlets, including AAA World, the Robb Report, Meetings & Conventions, LINKS, Global Traveler, the Dallas Morning News, the Minneapolis Star Tribune, Sea Island Life, Bespoke, Salamander and the Columbus Dispatch.
Dale is the former senior editor of POLO and SPUR magazines, and the former content editor of EquiSearch.com and DiscoverHorses.com. She brought a wealth of experience to those positions, having been a professional hunter-jumper trainer and coach who also dabbled in racing and polo.
Golf became a passion for Dale many years ago, and she has written extensively about golf travel, including destinations such as Australia, New Zealand, Vietnam, Cambodia, Scotland, Ireland, England, Wales, Canada, the Caribbean and the Bahamas.
